The Blessing of Friends

I am a person who believes in the value of friendship.  I believe in the value of giving and that it will far exceed any receiving.  I believe in the value of nuturing friendships.  I believe in doing all I can to support the dreams of those around me.

One of the great joys in life, I find, is learning and understanding what brings out the best in people.  You see all people have gifts.  You all have talents.  Sometimes we're fortunate enough to find people who compliment our talents or even better - are great at things that you just plain stink at.

My friend Annie - started as a collegue.  We saw each other thru some very high points and some very low points in life.  Annie continues to show me examples of how to be a better person, stronger in faith and thru those ups/downs we (I think) are helping each other learn how to embrace life with a little less worry and a little less stress.

Annie is talented in so many ways and one is a keen sense of design.  No formal training but you all know what I'm talking about - she just gets it.  She can put together things you'd never think of - she see's things I just don't see - haha!

Well Annie took on her first 'design' project when I gave her the green light to do SOMETHING with my kitchen!  You'll see in the before pictures I pretty much had junk stuff from the 3 apartments I'd previously lived in just randomly placed.  I pretty lack the vision she has been blessed with.

Last night Annie blogged about the project and since well another gift she has is the gift of writing - I won't attempt to re-write what was already so perfectly written:  http://staeblerfamily.blogspot.com/2012/03/belly-up-to-bar.html

Dan and I hope to continue and build our friendship with the Staeblers and you can pretty much guarantee that I'll be standing at the sidelines cheering Annie on as she takes baby steps at following her dreams/passions.  (oh and I'm officially saving for my next room for Annie to tackle :)

PS - On a personal note I'd like to give a shout out to all who gave us gift cards for Home Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond and others.  Not only did we get all the trim and doors to finish off the basement project this kitchen project was paid almost entirely with gift cards!  The generosity is so appreciated and while I know some people struggle with gift cards feeling impersonal - a little bit from people here/there went a very long way for us!

Bounce House

One morning while in Phoenix - we hit a bounce house place that was having "Toddler Time" - much to the delight of a few adults they let the adults play on everything with their kids during Toddler Time.

Wasn't quite sure about this climbing business.....
Excuse me...could I get a little help here....
All is right in the world - help is here!

Splish Splash

The house we rented this year had an awesome heated pool (and locked safety fence for kids all the way around it!) and was enjoyed by pretty much everyone!

Here are a few shots of the kiddos on their first time in:

You can see the fence around the pool in these shots - was a HUGE bonus for us so the kids could be playing outside without anyone worrying they would get into the pool without us.

Cannot make this up....

So the baseball talk I thought was non-stop before our trip to Arizona and boy was I wrong...it's officially NOW non-stop.  Connor pretty much wants to know at all times - where his hat is, his 'gloves', his foul ball (Dan got one at a game that they were at together and of course, gave it to Connor), when he can go play ball, when he can go to the baseball field, where is Adam Dunn (a player for the Sox, talking about homeruns, hitting, catching and throwing pretty much every waking hour.

With that said - on Tuesday night he insisted on going to be with his 'gloves' on and with his foul ball.  Mind you that the 'gloves' are just a pair of mittens - but he knows baseball players wear gloves and he's content that he has a pair - ha! Before I went to bed on Tuesday I pulled the gloves off since he was already warm.

So on Wednesday morning - I go in to wake Connor up and look at how I find him sleeping:

I tell him it's time to wake up - he rolls around quite a bit and this is how he lands (so far as I can tell he was still sleeping):

I think it's safe to say he's a baseball fan.

A delightful afternoon

Last Friday - my mom, Sue Komarek, Tracy and I spent the afternoon at the Phoenician.  If you've never been its a beautiful and spectacular resort in the Phoenix area.  This year we decided to try out the Afternoon Team which is 'award winning' - we had a delightful time!  Here are some pictures from the afternoon:

Everyone had their own teapot and choice of tea!

First Course - Finger Sandwiches: Hickory Smoked Salmon, English Cucumber, Egg Salad, Lemon & Thyme Chicken Salad, Asparagus & Garlic Herb Mousse
Second Course - Scones (forgot to take a picture):  Buttermilk and Cranberry Scones served with Devonshire Cream, Lemon Curd, and Fresh Strawberry Preserves

Third Course - Tea Pastries:  Eclair, Coffee Opera, Scottish Shortbread, Mango Dome, Fruit Tart, Chocolate Bavarois, Sable Breton, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, Brandied Cherry Pomponette

It was a WONDERFUL afternoon and we definitely walked away will full tummies! We've decided we need to try Afternoon Tea in Chicago now for a good basis for comparision ;)

You can put it on the board...yah!

We had an awesome week in Arizona and now we're playing catch up and trying to handle not only a time change but an adjustment from daylight savings.  (AZ doesn't do daylight savings - who knew?!?)

Anyways - highlight of the trip for Connor was on day two - Sunday March 11, 2012 when he got to run the bases after a MLB Spring Training Game.  (White Sox vs. Colorado Rockies)

He would be the delightfully enthusiastic and little guy with grey pants, black shirt and black hat.

I'll be back with lots of pictures from the last week just as soon as I can!  ENJOY!

Meeting Riley

On our trip home from MN on Monday we decided to go thru Iowa and stop and meet our new cousin Riley.  Well - made for a super LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG day but was great for the 2 hours we got to spend with Riley.

Connor was a big fan.
