There must be one heck of a party going on behind the pearly gates. Yesterday, we lost another great person who was taken too soon from our lives.
Michael E. Steinmeyer, 61, of Menomonie was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, in Minneapolis after battling heart disease and kidney failure.
Michael was born February 1, 1951, in Menomonie, WI, the son of Ernest and Ocille (Bauer) Steinmeyer. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1969 and graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College in 1971.
Michael married Dawn (Tietz) on May 10, 1975. He worked in food service at St. Teresa's College in Winona, MN; Lammer's Foods, Don's Super Valu, Flapjack County USA, Olde Towne, Cravings, and most recently was the school cook at St. Paul's Lutheran School—all in Menomonie.
Michael was an active member of the Menomonie Kiwanis Club and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, serving on several boards. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, camping, cooking and baking, his flowers and taking care of the yard.
Michael is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dawn; and their daughters, Melissa (Augusto) Perez and their children, Eva and Vincent of Hudson; Janelle (John) Johnson and their children, Delaney and Maddux of Menomonie; and Brittany Steinmeyer of Menomonie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Pastor Keith Schleis officiating. There will be visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, also in Menomonie.
Mike was a true fighter and gave the battle all he had. His family has showed their strength and faith in the Lord - they have been a true inspiration.
